UCC Bill: UCC Bill introduced in Assembly, slogans of Jai Shri Ram raised, proceedings adjourned till 2 pm

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami introduced the Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand 2024 Bill in the state assembly in Dehradun. Slogans of "Vande Mataram and Jai Shri Ram" were raised by MLAs in the state assembly after the introduction of the Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand 2024 Bill.

On Tuesday, the second day of the Uttarakhand Assembly session, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami tabled the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill. During this, the opposition MLAs continued creating a ruckus. The Leader of the Opposition also raised questions on this.

However, the House was adjourned till 2:00 pm to study the Uniform Civil Code. The Dhami government of the state will also present an amended bill in the Assembly today for 10 percent horizontal reservation in government jobs for the state agitators and their dependents. In the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee, it was decided that all work in the House would be left aside and only UCC would be discussed.

Earlier, in the business advisory meeting chaired by Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, it was decided that there would be no Question Hour and no adjournment during this period. Along with the discussion on UCC, the report of the Select Committee on reservation for state agitators will be tabled. Angered by this, opposition leader Yashpal Arya and Congress MLA Pritam Singh resigned from the business advisory committee. The opposition had demanded that time be given to discuss UCC.

Yashpal Arya's taunt on BJP

Regarding the UCC bill, Leader of Opposition in Uttarakhand Assembly Yashpal Arya said that we are not opposing it. Rather, we want the House to function as per the constitutional procedure and rules. Which works accordingly. BJP is continuously ignoring it.

Complaint about running the House against the rules

Along with this, action should be taken regarding question hour and adjournment. Angered Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya and Congress MLA Pritam Singh resigned from the Business Advisory Committee. In the evening, the Congress legislature party reached Raj Bhavan and complained to Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Senior) about running the House against the rules of the state government.

At the same time, on Monday, the first day of the Assembly session, an emotional tribute was paid in the House on the demise of six present and former MLAs. In this, Sharbat Karim Ansari, who was BSP MLA from Mangalore in the present assembly, former MLA Mohan Singh Rawat villager, Puran Chand Sharma, Kunwar Narendra Singh, Kishan Singh Tadagi, Dhaniram Singh Negi were remembered in the House and MLAs from both sides shared their memories.

The wait on UCC is ending: Dhami

Not only in Uttarakhand, people from all over the country are waiting for UCC. This is an epoch-making time for Uttarakhand. The eyes of the entire country are on us. For the upliftment of mother power, members of all parties should participate positively in the discussion. The government is going to fulfill the promise made to the public. Fortunately, Uttarakhand is getting this opportunity, which the country needed for a long time. -Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister

In the business advisory meeting, it was decided that on February 6, the report of the Select Committee on the UCC Bill and reservation for state agitators will be tabled. UCC will be discussed in detail in the House. Given this, there will be no question hour and adjournment. We all should be proud of UCC that we are going to bring such a law to the country.

The agenda for running the House is decided in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee. The state government is giving full respect to the opposition even after having a huge majority. The opposition does not want discussion on UCC, nor does the opposition intend to implement UCC in Uttarakhand.

The government is giving the form of a special session by ignoring the rules of conduct of business while running the House. Not doing Question Hour and adjournment is a violation of the rights of MLAs. In the business consultation, the opposition presented the UCC Bill in the afternoon and proposed to discuss it on February 7, but the government is not ready to listen. Due to this I and Pritam Singh have resigned from the Business Advisory Committee.
