According to news agency PTI, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 will not be implemented in most tribal areas of the northeastern states, including areas granted special status under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
These states will get an exemption
Officials cited the rules of the law notified on Monday and said that tribal areas where autonomous councils were formed under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution have also been kept out of the purview of the CAA. These autonomous councils exist in Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
