Canada has issued a new travel advisory for its citizens traveling to India. This advisory states that Canadian citizens can be intimidated and exploited in India. Let us tell you that this new travel advisory of Canada came after Canada decided to recall its 41 diplomats from India. The advisory states that operations at the Consulate General of Canada in Bangalore, Chandigarh, and Mumbai have been currently suspended. In such a situation, citizens will have to contact the High Commission of Canada located in New Delhi for diplomatic help.
Canada issues new 'advice' for citizens
Immediately after the press conference of Canadian Foreign Minister Méleine Joly, on Friday, the Government of Canada issued new advice for its citizens traveling to India in the Safety and Security section. It has been told in these advisories that there are negative sentiments towards Canada in the Indian media and social media and there may be protests against Canada. There may also be anti-Canadian protests in these. In such a situation, Canadian citizens may have to face exploitation.
The advisory states that 'Do not talk to strangers in Delhi and National Capital Region and do not share your personal information with them. Avoid going to crowded areas and also avoid public transport. Whenever you go out, tell your friends or family about your travel plans. Let us tell you that last June, Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead in Surrey, Canada. The Canadian government had accused India of this. However, India had rejected the Canadian government's allegations as absurd.
Canada recalled diplomats
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly announced that Canadian diplomats are returning home after New Delhi's ultimatum. Let us tell you that India had given an ultimatum to Canada to reduce the number of its diplomats present in India and if this is not done by Friday, then the diplomatic protection given to Canadian diplomats will be taken away. After India's ultimatum, Canada has now recalled many of its diplomats.
Relations between India and Canada have soured since Nijjar's murder. India has temporarily suspended visa services for Canadian citizens. Canada has advised its citizens to avoid traveling to India.
