75 percent attendance is mandatory for board examinees in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools, but in view of the complaint of low attendance in some schools, the board has clarified that without going to school, neither the internal assessment will be done nor the result will be declared.
Schools will have to ensure that the attendance of the students is not less than 75 percent. Along with this, schools will not be able to teach any new subject without the permission of CBSE. It will be the responsibility of the schools to complete the internal assessment of the students correctly and on time.
Under the New Education Policy (NEP-2020), internal assessment is done in all subjects for two years. If the students do not come to school, their internal assessment will not be possible, and the result will not be released.
Notice issued on Monday
In the notice issued by CBSE on Monday, it has been stated that for class 10th, studies have to be completed in classes 9 and 10, and for class 12th, studies have to be completed in class 11 and 12. In class 10, students can take a maximum of two additional subjects in addition to the five compulsory subjects, and in class 12, only one additional subject.
CBSE's examination controller, Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, has said that these rules will apply equally to both students and schools and cannot be ignored under any circumstances. With this change, students whose attendance is less than 75 percent can be barred from appearing in the examination.
CBSE school organization Sahodaya Complex's joint secretary, Dr. Prerna Mitra, says that there is already a rule regarding 75 percent attendance. Strictness will bring about improvement in school education. Children who do not go to school after taking admission and go for tuition will be stopped.
