Chandrayaan-3 Mission: Chandrayaan-3 of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is ready to create history. The eyes of the country and the world are focused on this mission of India. The vehicle's lander module has reached the closest lunar orbit with the final deboosting. Now the wait is only for 23 August. Meanwhile, many questions need to be answered.
Why is Chandrayaan-3 important?
Professor Annapurni Subramaniam, senior astronomer and director of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bengaluru, told in an interview with a private TV channel that the Moon mission is an important moment in India's space journey. They said,
Why is it difficult to land on the moon?
The senior astronomer explained that the atmosphere and gravity change upon entering space. Once the lander reaches the lunar orbit, we cannot assume that it will land on a tabletop. It can land on random and non-uniform surfaces. They said,
Professor Annapoorni Subramaniam said that the software of the Chandrayaan-3 lander is more robust. Also, more sensors can provide data. So it can take better decisions. We have better maps than the previous mission. So, once the lander reaches its final orbit, it has to find the right distance from the ground, determine the speed accurately, and land.
The last 30 km will be very important for Chandrayaan-3
Professor Subramaniam told that ISRO has done many tests since the launch of Chandrayaan-3 till it reaches the Moon's orbit. We have passed several important steps. We will land without any trouble, but the last 30 km will be crucial. This is because the parameters of space are vast and there are complexities involved. There will always be a small to non-zero chance that it could go wrong and we can't eliminate it. Chandrayaan-3 is most likely to be successful.
Why does India want to go near the Sun?
The Sun's outer layer is extremely hot, but why it is as hot as the Sun's center is still a mystery. The answers to all these questions are expected from the Aditya L1 mission. Aditya L1 will fly to the L1 Lagrange point about 1.5 million km from Earth and will be placed in a coronal orbit perpendicular to the line joining the Sun and Earth.
This will be the first time we will go so close to the sun. The Aditya L1 mission will provide information about what is in the Sun and how it emits its energy.
What is the biggest challenge regarding Chandrayaan-3?
Space strategist PK Ghosh on Sunday said that one of the 'biggest' challenges in landing Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar surface is to move the spacecraft from horizontal to vertical. It's difficult. All these aspects have to be taken care of. Explaining the process of deboosting, PK Ghosh said that deboosting or retro firing is a process to enable a spacecraft to reduce its speed.
When will Chandrayaan-3 land on the Moon?
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on Sunday announced that Chandrayaan 3 underwent the second and final deboosting operation in the early hours of Sunday and is scheduled to land on the moon on Wednesday at 6:04 pm.
