Chhath, the great festival of folk faith, was celebrated with great pomp in the entire division including Bareilly. On the fourth day of Chhath Puja, arghya was offered to the rising sun. In Bareilly, the process of devotees arriving at the lakes and places of worship started at 4 am on Friday. Holding a bowl of prasad in their hands, the fasting women stood in the water and worshiped Lord Surya Dev.
Breaking the fast after 36 hours by offering arghya to the rising sun
As soon as the first ray of the sun appeared, the fasting women offered arghya to Lord Bhaskar and prayed for the happiness and prosperity of the family. After this, the 36-hour difficult fast was concluded by giving prasad to the sons and other family members. During this, there was a fair-like atmosphere. Songs of Chhathi Maiya kept resonating. A large number of local people also participated in Chhath Puja.

Chhath Puja was organized in Shri Shiv-Shakti temple located in the Rohilkhand University campus of Bareilly. Here, fasting women along with their families arrived singing songs of Chhathi Maiya from 4 am in the morning. There, lamps were lit near the Kalash. Other family members also reached there carrying fruits like bananas, pineapple, guava, apples, thekua, and baskets of flowers on their heads.
Apart from this, a large number of people visited the Sun God and offered Arghya at home including Shiva temple, Dhopeshwarnath temple, and Ramganga bank located in Izzatnagar. Those who could not reach the ghats, filled water in tubs on the roof of their houses and performed the Puja as per rituals.
