The Chinese-developed aircraft JF-17 has become a problem for Pakistan due to defects in the Russian RD-93 engines, even after many countries have shown interest in the aircraft. Recently, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia have come forward as potential buyers of the JF-17 fighter. Several attempts by the Chinese Nanjing Research Institute of Electronics Technology to fix the Russian RD-93 engine were unsuccessful.

Pakistan went to Russia after China

According to the agreement between Beijing and Islamabad for the JF-17, Pakistan is allowed to get engines and spare parts from Russia only through the mediation of China. Pakistan applied directly to Moscow for the purchase of new RD-93 engines, bypassing China's mediation, due to the failure of Chinese fighter jets, reports Defesa Online.

Can't even talk to Russia

Pakistan also had to work hard to get the RD-93 engines used in the JF-17 directly from Russia. After several rounds of negotiations, Russian engine company Klimov agreed to provide the RD-93 engine and associated repair systems, and maintenance facilities for the JF-17 aircraft. But Russian arms giant Rosoboronexport, the state-run company that was supposed to buy spare parts for the RD-93 engines, has come under US sanctions. This has created banking problems in getting the deal done.

The Russian company is facing problems

Let us tell you that the Russian company Rosoboronexport is not able to buy the parts used in the RD-93 engine from different countries of the world even if it wants to. This has affected the entire supply chain associated with engine manufacturing.
