In the case of the death of three students in the basement of Rau Coaching Center, it has been revealed that this institute itself had completely blocked the drainage system. The report of the Chief Secretary of Delhi also revealed the fact that there was no security or rescue system in the institute.
According to the report submitted to the Delhi Government, the coaching institute covered the drain from above. The parking lot of the institute meets the road directly and in case of heavy rain, the water coming on the road can go directly to the parking instead of going into the drain. There was no security staff either. If there was staff, they could have been alert in case of water logging and the lives of the students could have been saved. The report also raises questions on the MCD and says that due to encroachment on the road outside the building and illegal ramp, the rainwater could not go into the drains.
Libraries doubled the fees.
Students preparing for civil services claimed that libraries in Old Rajendra Nagar and surrounding areas have now doubled the fees. Earlier the fee was Rs 2000, now a fee of Rs 4 to 5,000 per month is being demanded.
NHRC notice to Delhi Government, Municipal Commissioner
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Delhi Government, Police, and Commissioner of Delhi Municipal Corporation on the death of three students due to water logging in the basement of Rau Coaching Center. Taking suo motu cognizance of the matter, the Commission has asked them to give a detailed report in two weeks, which should also include details of pending complaints against the institutions and action taken by the concerned departments.
