Today, on the occasion of Constitution Day, President Draupadi Murmu addressed the joint session of Parliament. This joint session was held in the Central Hall of Parliament. On Tuesday, 75 years have been completed since the implementation of the Constitution in the country. During this, President Murmu also released a special commemorative coin on the occasion of Constitution Day. Along with this, the President also released a special postage stamp. On the occasion of Constitution Day, President Draupadi Murmu, PM Modi, Vice President also released a copy of the Constitution in Sanskrit language.
'Constitution, the foundation stone of our democratic values'
In his address on Constitution Day, the President said 'I am very happy to be among you all on the auspicious occasion of Constitution Day. Today we are all becoming participants of a historic occasion. 75 years ago, in this very chamber of Parliament, the huge task of creating the Constitution of the country was accomplished, and on the same day this Constitution was adopted. The Constitution is the foundation stone of our democratic values. Today, on behalf of the grateful nation, I pay tribute to the members of the Constituent Assembly. Baba Ambedkar led the Constituent Assembly.'
'India is the mother of democracy'
The President said, 'India is the mother of democracy. With this feeling, we have gathered on this special occasion. We should also remember the invaluable contribution of those officers who worked behind the scenes and strengthened the constitutional values of the country. Among them, BN Rao, who was an advisor to the Constituent Assembly, played a prominent role. On the coming 26th of January, we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of our Republic. Such celebrations reflect our national unity. The unity in diversity of the country was demonstrated in our Constituent Assembly. In the books released today, people will get to know about the glorious history of the making of our Constitution. Our Constitution was made with many years of hard work, but it was the result of our freedom struggle. The ideals of India, justice, freedom, and equality have also been reflected in the Constitution.'
The government took many steps for the welfare of the weaker sections.
The President said 'According to the spirit of the Constitution, it is the responsibility of the executive, legislature, and judiciary to work together for the welfare of the people. GST was implemented for the economic integration of the country. A new era was started with the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. The government has taken many steps for the welfare of all sections, especially the backward classes. Poor people are getting the facilities of concrete houses, electricity, water, and roads. Medical services are being provided and quality infrastructure is being built on a large scale in the country. I appreciate the government for these efforts.'
'The Constitution is a living and progressive document'
The President said 'The judiciary is also working for the welfare of undertrial prisoners. The facility of providing justice to people with fewer resources is increasing. This gives strength to our constitutional rights. Work is being done in the areas of creating harmony in society, ensuring the rights of women and the environment, etc. Our Constitution is a living and progressive document. We have achieved many goals of social justice through the Constitution. Our Constitution makers have given the message of strengthening international peace and security. Today, the country is economically strong as well as promoting the ideas of Vishwabhadu.'
Remembering the country's first President
The President remembered the country's first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad and said that 'the visionary members of the Constituent Assembly gave an inspiring Constitution, which is a model for other countries as well. Dr. Rajendra Prasad had said on this day that keeping the Constitution alive depends on those who run it. What is not written in the Constitution is run by traditions. Now, after three-fourths of the Constitution journey, the country has achieved remarkable success. The coming generations should be made aware of these successes.'
