Bloomberg has quoted China's National Health Commission as saying that on December 20, 2022, 37 million new cases of the corona were reported here in a single day. However, only 3 thousand cases were reported on this day in the official figures. According to the report, in the first 20 days of this month, 248 million people have been infected in China. These figures cause both astonishment and fear.

Surprised because Corona has returned. The fear is that once again it may not spread to the whole world including India. Bhaskar will know in the explainer that in how many days this new Covid wave from China can affect India.

The first wave of Corona reached India relatively late. The reason for this was that India had imposed a strict lockdown in March itself.

The month of September 2020 was seen as the peak of the first wave. On September 11, 2020, a total of 97 thousand 650 cases came. That is, about 220 days after the first case was found, the peak of the first wave was seen. After this, the number of patients kept decreasing and till the last week of December, the number of new patients received daily remained between 25 to 30. The effect of Covid has reduced a bit and you will remember that in the next five months there was a slight relaxation in the lockdown and Covid precautions in the country.

Story of the second wave of Corona in India

The second wave did not occur simultaneously across the world. The unofficial date of its arrival in India is considered to be 11 February 2021. The main reason for the inactivity of the second wave was considered to be the delta variant. Corona's variant delta was super infectious and it killed more than 1.80 lakh people in India.

After the spread of the new delta variant, Maharashtra and especially Mumbai were seen as new hotspots. By the time of April, 9000 cases started getting daily in Maharashtra alone. According to WHO, after receiving the first case, till May 18, 2021, the presence of the delta variant had been confirmed in 48 countries of the world, after which these cases kept on increasing.

Its peak came only about 84 days after the second wave started in February 2021. On May 6, 2021, 4 lakh 14 thousand Covid cases came into the country. Officially, at the end of May 2021, there were a total of 27 lakhs Covid infections in India, and more than three lahks had died. By the first week of October 2021, the Delta variant had spread to at least 191 countries.

The story of the third wave of Corona in India

By the first week of November 2021, 7,000 to 9,000 corona cases were coming. Meanwhile, vaccination was happening fast in the country. It was expected that at the beginning of 2022 the matter would be rectified and life would start back on track. Only then, by the last week of November, there was talk of the Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant. The first case of this variant was officially reported on 24 November 2021 in South Africa. After this, the first week of December 2021 is believed to be the time for the new Omicron variant to spread.

Omicron was considered a very aggressive virus. One infected person could infect 15-18 people. The situation is such that by January 2022, lakhs of cases started coming to the fore every day. The third round of Covid, which started in the first week of December, was considered till March 2022. During this, on January 20, 2022, about 3 lacks 47 thousand new cases of corona infection were registered in India.

The RTPCR test has gained momentum in all the states and districts of the country. This new variant of Covid used to spread the infection very fast. Seeing the Covid trend in South Africa, it was predicted that the cases will increase rapidly and decrease rapidly. Almost the same situation was also observed. The peak of the third wave came in 50 days. Doctors called Omicron like a sudden flood.

In how many days will the Covid wave from China come to India?

The new variant of Corona is a sub-variant of Omicron and so far 4 cases have been found in India. It is known as the Omicron sub-variant BF.7. This variant is made by mutating from Omicron's sub-variant BF5. A person infected with BF.7 variant can infect 10 to 15 people.

Vinay K., director of the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), on how much danger is there from the new variant of Covid and how many days it can affect us. Nandikuri says that the impact of the BF.7 variant will not be much in India. Most Indians now have hybrid immunity. He has acquired immunity through vaccination. However, he also stressed following the Covid protocol including wearing masks.
