A warning has been issued regarding the third wave of corona in India. A team of health experts of the country has predicted a third wave of corona in the country by October. According to a Reuters poll of medical experts – by October, there is a possibility of a third wave of coronavirus infection in India. However, health experts have said that it will be more controlled than the second corona wave in India, but due to this third wave, now the corona infection in the country can persist for another year.
A June 3-17 SNAP survey of 40 health experts, doctors, scientists, virologists, epidemiologists, and professors from around the world showed that a significant uptick in vaccinations in India would slightly reduce the third wave outbreak. Of those who predicted the third wave of corona in India, 85% or more than 21 health experts said that the next wave would come by October. Three people predicted it in early August and 12 people predicted it in September. The remaining three people have expressed the possibility of a third wave of corona in India between November and February.
A matter of relief about the third wave
However, it is a matter of relief that more than 70% of experts or 24 out of 34 people have said that any new outbreak will be controlled better than the current corona outbreak in India. Dr. Randeep Guleria, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has said that this will be further controlled as the cases will be very less as more vaccination will have started and there will be some natural immunity from the second wave. That is, the third wave of the corona is not likely to be that fast.
What experts said about children
When asked whether children and people under the age of 18 would be most at risk in a potential third wave, nearly two-thirds of experts, or 26 out of 40, said yes. Dr. Pradeep Banandur, head of the epidemiology department at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), said they are a completely untouched population in terms of vaccination as there is currently no vaccine available for them. Experts have warned that the situation could be serious.
Dr. Devi Shetty, the cardiologist at Narayana Health and advisor to the Karnataka state government on pandemic response planning, said if children get infected in large numbers and we are not prepared, you cannot do anything at the last minute. But 14 experts said children are not at risk.
For how long will India remain in danger?
Responding to a separate question, 30 out of 41 experts said that the coronavirus will remain a threat in India for at least a year. 11 experts said the threat would last less than a year. 15 people said that it would be less than two years while 13 experts said that more than two years and two people said that the threat of corona in India will never end.
