Chinese hackers targeted the power grid near Ladakh a few months ago. Their motive was to steal important information. Recorded Future, a private intelligence firm based in Massachusetts, USA, has claimed this in a report. The firm said that it has published the report only after giving this information to the Government of India.
The report claimed that hackers targeted at least 7 Indian State Load Despatch Centers (SLDCs) in recent months. These centers do grid control and real-time power distribution in areas near the India-China border in Ladakh. It was told in the report that the same group of hackers also tried to target the National Emergency Response System.
Load dispatch centers were also targeted
The report said that hackers consistently targeted state and regional load dispatch centers over the past 18 months. First, a group named RedEcho tried to hack and after that, the TAG-38 group has come to the fore. This shows that China-sponsored threats have been active in India for a long time. Such groups are always on the lookout for opportunities to gather intelligence.
It was the recorded future that opened the secret of the Mumbai blackout.
Recorded Future had revealed the hand of Chinese hackers behind the 12-hour blackout in Mumbai on 12 October 2020. So far, Chinese hackers have targeted the electricity supply in India more. Their motive is to disturb the internal system of the country. On the same day, 40 sub-stations in Telangana were also targeted by these hackers. However, the attempt was foiled after receiving an alert from the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN).
Corona vaccine company also attacked
In 2021 also, a report was told that hackers from China had also carried out cyber attacks on Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech, two companies preparing corona vaccine in India. However, China's Foreign Ministry issued a statement denying any such allegations.
Cyber attacks on many countries in America and Europe
Not only India, but China has also carried out cyber attacks on many countries in America and Europe. In 2021, three US investigative agencies National Security Agency (NSA), Cyber Security and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a joint statement alleging this.
It was said in the statement that Chinese hackers are extorting money in cryptocurrency from enemy countries by attacking ransomware. This advisory has been titled 'China's State-Sponsored Cyber Operation'.
