This is Russian President Vladimir Putin's first official visit to India since the war in Ukraine began in February 2022. He arrived in Delhi on the evening of December 4 for the 23rd India-Russia annual summit.
Putin's last visit to India was in December 2021.
During this state visit, Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss various regional and global issues of mutual interest. Putin's visit is considered crucial after the souring of relations between the US and India following the imposition of tariffs.
This bilateral meeting is significant as several agreements are expected to be signed, strengthening the economic partnership between the two countries. Areas of particular interest include trade, economy, healthcare, education, culture, and media. The visit is taking place against the backdrop of a sharp deterioration in relations between India and the US.

Putin's main official engagements will take place on Friday, December 5, beginning with a meeting with the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 11:00 AM. From Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Putin will visit Rajghat to pay tribute at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial. Following this, he will go to Hyderabad House, where most of the diplomatic discussions will take place.

The annual India-Russia summit talks between Prime Minister Modi and Putin will be held at Hyderabad House on Friday, December 5. Later the same day, Putin will launch the new India channel of the Russian state broadcaster RT TV.

Following the Modi-Putin talks, several agreements are expected to be signed by both sides, one of which will facilitate the movement of Indian workers to Russia and another on logistical support under a broader framework of defense cooperation.
