Pollution has stopped the pace of development in Delhi. Work on all the projects of the Public Works Department (PWD) came to a standstill on Monday. In this, there are four big plans to build flyovers to get rid of traffic jams, while 15 projects to increase beds in hospitals and to build four new hospitals are included.
Work will be halted until pollution reduces: PWD official
A senior official of the department said that until the pollution is reduced, the work will come to a standstill. This will delay the completion of the projects by at least four months. After three years of continuous bans, due to the increase in pollution in winter, the National Quality Commission had last year given relief to PWD in terms of construction activities under the third phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAPE).
Under this work, any major scheme of PWD was not stopped. But instructions were given to strictly follow the rules to prevent dust pollution.
PWD was hopeful that there would be no ban
PWD was hopeful that this time also there would be no ban on construction work like last year. But this time, there was no ban on big projects under construction work till Grape Three, but when the pollution did not stop, Grape Four was implemented. If yes, then even big projects have been banned from Monday.
Talking about infrastructural development projects, last year work was started on four big projects to make roads signal-free. Under this, preparations were started to provide relief to the people from the jam by building new flyovers and underpasses.
Under this, the foundation stone of the Apsara Border Project has been laid on October 10, 2022. The foundation stone of the Punjabi Bagh flyover was laid on 29 September 2022.
To make Mukarba Chowk and Haiderpur Metro Road jam-free, the foundation stone of three underpasses was laid on 27 September 2022. The work of constructing an underpass to go from Bhairon Marg to Ring Road near Pragati Maidan is going on. The work of Barapula Elevated Corridor Phase-III is going on in front of Mayur Vihar Phase-I in Yamuna Khadar.
Construction work for the hospital is also going on
Along with this, the Delhi government is getting construction work done to increase beds in 15 hospitals. New towers are being built in these hospitals. Apart from this, four new hospitals are being built. Apart from these, seven Corona hospitals are being built. They are being built on steel frames. But all this work has come to a standstill.
