A major accident occurred near Delhi's historic Red Fort on Monday evening. A car exploded near the Red Fort Metro Station, killing eight people and injuring seven. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Monday evening when a Hyundai i20 car suddenly exploded. The blast also damaged nearby vehicles.
Home Minister Amit Shah stated that upon receiving information about the accident, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Special Branch arrived at the scene within 10 minutes. The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of the explosion is currently being ascertained.
US Embassy Issues Security Alert
Following the explosion, the US Embassy issued a security alert for its citizens living in India. The embassy wrote on its website, "On November 10, 2025, a car exploded near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi. Several people are reported injured. The cause of the explosion is currently unknown."
The embassy has advised its citizens to stay away from the Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, and crowded areas, to stay updated with local media, and to remain vigilant.
Foreign Embassies Express Condolences
Diplomats from Britain, Sri Lanka, Morocco, and Australia expressed their condolences following the blast. British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron said, "My condolences to all those affected by the blast near Delhi's Red Fort."
The Sri Lankan High Commission wrote on Twitter, "We extend our deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones. We wish the injured a speedy recovery." Diplomats from Morocco and Australia also posted condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with India.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police said that a case has been registered at the Kotwali police station under sections 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and various sections of the Explosives Act and the BNS.
