अपराध करने वाले छह लोग थे, लेकिन बस चालक राम सिंह ने आत्महत्या कर ली और एक सुधार गृह में तीन साल बिताने के बाद एक किशोर आरोपी को छोड़ दिया गया।दिल्ली में चलती बस में 23 वर्षीय महिला के बलात्कार और हत्या के लिए दोषी ठहराए गए चार लोगों को क्रूर अपराध करने के सात साल से अधिक समय बाद शुक्रवार को सुबह 5:30 बजे फांसी दी गई।
पुलिस महानिदेशक संदीप गोयल ने कहा कि बस के क्लीनर मुकेश सिंह और अक्षय ठाकुर, फल-विक्रेता पवन गुप्ता और जिम प्रशिक्षक विनय शर्मा को तिहाड़ जेल नंबर 3 के अंदर एक साथ फांसी दी गई।
2004 में 14 साल की लड़की के बलात्कार और हत्या के लिए धनंजय चटर्जी को बलात्कार के मामले में फांसी की सजा देने के लिए भारत में पहली बार फांसी की प्रतीक्षा करने वाली भीड़ को नियंत्रित करने के लिए जेल के बाहर सैकड़ों पुलिस कर्मियों को तैनात किया गया था।संदीप गोयल ने कहा कि तिहाड़ जेल के अंदर एक डॉक्टर ने फांसी लगाने के बाद चार लोगों के शवों की जांच की और उन्हें मृत घोषित कर दिया।शवों को अब डीडीयू अस्पताल में पोस्टमॉर्टम के लिए भेजा जाएगा। जेल के एक प्रवक्ता ने कहा, "पोस्टमार्टम की प्रक्रिया की वीडियोग्राफी की जाएगी।"
अधिकारियों ने कहा कि जिन पुरुषों ने कोई वसीयत नहीं छोड़ी है, उन्हें गुरुवार देर रात अदालत से अपडेट के बारे में बताया गया।
‘जस्टिस आखिर’
एक किशोर सहित छह लोगों ने महिला के साथ सामूहिक बलात्कार किया और उसके साथ सामूहिक रूप से मारपीट की। प्रधान आरोपी राम सिंह, बस चालक, ने 2013 में आत्महत्या कर ली और एक सुधार गृह में तीन साल बिताने के बाद एक किशोर आरोपी को रिहा कर दिया गया।
इस अपराध ने पूरे देश में व्यापक विरोध प्रदर्शन को जन्म दिया था, एक बड़े पैमाने पर वैश्विक आक्रोश हुआ और भारत में यौन अपराधियों के खिलाफ कानूनों को सख्त किया गया।
अपराध के आरोपी पुरुषों को एक साल के भीतर दोषी ठहराया गया और उनकी मौत की सजा को सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने 2017 में बरकरार रखा। लेकिन इसके निष्पादन में लंबा समय लगा जब वकीलों ने इन पुरुषों का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हुए दोषियों को उनकी फांसी में देरी के लिए उपलब्ध कानूनी उपायों का हवाला दिया।
दोषियों को फांसी पर लटकाए देखने के लिए महिला के माता-पिता, विशेषकर उसकी मां ने कानूनी लड़ाई जारी रखी।
“आखिरकार, दोषियों को फांसी दी गई है। यह आठ साल का संघर्ष था। इसमें देरी हुई लेकिन हमें न्याय मिला। आज निर्भया को न्याय मिला और देश की लड़कियों को न्याय मिला। मैं सभी को धन्यवाद देना चाहता हूं - न्यायपालिका, सरकार, प्रत्येक नागरिक - इसके लिए, “उसने फांसी के बाद पत्रकारों से बात करते हुए कहा।
"यह पूरे देश के लिए एक संदेश होगा, उसने कहा। “लड़कियां अब सुरक्षित महसूस करेंगी। फांसी के बाद, परिवार अपने बेटों को पढ़ाना शुरू करेंगे और उदाहरण के तौर पर फांसी का इस्तेमाल करेंगे।
इस बीच, दोषियों के परिजन यह दलील देते रहे कि कानूनी व्यवस्था को कुछ दया दिखानी चाहिए और जीवन में उनकी मौत की सजा का विरोध करना चाहिए। परिवार के कुछ सदस्यों ने यह भी दावा किया कि ये अपराधी “निर्दोष” हैं।चूंकि गुरुवार को अंतिम याचिका खारिज कर दी गई थी, जिनमें से एक दोषी की पत्नी दिल्ली की अदालत के बाहर बेहोश हो गई थी।
चारों अपराधी दया के अनुरोध के साथ कई बार राष्ट्रपति के दरवाजे पर पहुंचे और उनकी सजा के खिलाफ सुप्रीम कोर्ट में याचिका दायर की। लेकिन सभी याचिकाएं और अनुरोध खारिज कर दिए गए।सामूहिक बलात्कार की शिकार युवती को बस से उतारकर बेरहमी से मारपीट की गई और उसे घायल कर दिया गया।उनकी मृत्यु सिंगापुर के एक अस्पताल में हुई, जहाँ 29 दिसंबर, 2012 को उनका एयरलिफ्ट किया गया था।
