Amid the Delhi Assembly elections, the troubles of Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia seem to be increasing in the money laundering case related to the liquor scam case.

In the latest case, the Union Home Ministry has given approval to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to prosecute Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) for their alleged involvement in money laundering related to the liquor scam case. News agency ANI gave this information on Wednesday quoting its sources.

LG had also approved to prosecute

It is known that Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena last month gave approval to the agency to prosecute Kejriwal. The CBI got approval for similar action against Kejriwal in a parallel corruption case related to the excise policy in August 2024.

The ED arrested Kejriwal, who is out on bail, on March 21, 2024, under the PMLA and named him in the chargesheet on May 17.

Accused of taking a bribe of Rs 100 crore

The chargesheet claimed that out of the Rs 100 crore bribe allegedly taken to benefit some liquor traders, Rs 45 crore was used for the Goa election campaign of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

According to the ED, Kejriwal was responsible for the money being used and raised as the national convener of the AAP and a member of the party's national executive. Citing witness statements, the ED said Kejriwal was also one of the founding members and was involved in decision-making regarding the liquor policy.

ED had called Kejriwal the "kingpin" of the scam.

The ED had called Kejriwal the "kingpin" of the scam related to the excise policy. The ED had said that Kejriwal, former deputy Manish Sisodia, and former AAP media in-charge Vijay Nair had demanded "additional" money apart from the ₹100 crore bribe for funding their elections. However, Arvind Kejriwal has denied all the allegations against him.
