Famous IAS officer and Barmer District Collector Tina Dabi is once again in the news. Tina Dabi is facing allegations that calling her a "reel star" proved costly for some students. The Rajasthan Police had detained the students, which led to a stir in political circles. Now, Tina Dabi has broken her silence on the entire matter.
The incident took place in Barmer district of Rajasthan. On Saturday, some young men protesting against the fee hike at Maharana Bhupal Girls College went to Tina Dabi's office to meet her.
What is the whole matter?
The protesters were adamant about meeting Tina Dabi. Tina Dabi, who became an IAS officer after clearing the civil services exam at the age of 22, is the District Collector of Barmer. When the police, while trying to stop the protesters, described Tina Dabi as a role model for everyone, some students of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) flatly denied this.
According to the students, "Tina Dabi is not a role model. If she were a role model, she would have come out to listen to our problems. She is just a reel star who goes everywhere making reels."
Serious allegations against the police
During the protest, the police detained several students, after which a crowd of protesters gathered in front of the police station. However, according to senior police officer Manoj Kumar, "The police have not detained anyone."
Manoj Kumar said:
The police have neither detained nor arrested anyone. To control the situation, we brought four students to the police station for questioning, and they were later released.
Tina Dabi's statement
The protesters are demanding an apology from the police administration. Meanwhile, Tina Dabi has also issued a written statement saying, "No one was detained. Despite the fee hike issue being resolved, some students were still protesting. The police took some people to the police station for talks to control the situation. Everyone was released after two hours."
Political controversy erupts
Tina Dabi says that this issue is being fueled on social media to gain publicity. Meanwhile, the issue has also become a topic of discussion in political circles. Several people, including Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, have started questioning Tina Dabi's actions.
