Delhi will now have only one Municipal Corporation. After the passage of the bill in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, now the bill uniting the three corporations has become law as soon as it gets the assent of the President. After this, there will be a Municipal Corporation of Delhi in the capital from today itself. According to the information received, President Ram Nath Kovind has given his assent to the bill passed by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. With this, the way has also been cleared for the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections.
At the same time, if the experts are to be believed, after the approval of the President, the process of delimitation will be done for the integration of the three municipal corporations of Delhi after the bill takes the form of law. After the completion of the delimitation process, the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections will be held.
The Delhi Municipal Corporation Amendment Bill 2022, which was first passed by the Lok Sabha and then the Rajya Sabha in the budget session, has got the assent of President Ram Nath Kovind. After this, now the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has come into existence in the capital. Now North, East, and South Delhi will not be Municipal corporations but will be Delhi Municipal Corporation. Due to this, there will be one mayor instead of three and one municipal commissioner instead of three municipal commissioners.
After ten years and 18 days, now the corporation will be in its old form. In the year 2011, the Delhi Legislative Assembly divided the Municipal Corporation of Delhi into three corporations. In which the southern corporation was formed along with the eastern and northern. The central government, which is facing bad economic conditions, had decided to merge the three corporations to improve its condition.
Confederation of MCD Employees Unions convener AP Khan has expressed happiness about the merger of the corporation. AP Khan said that this will solve the problem of salary and pension of the employees of the three municipal corporations. We were constantly demanding the central government take steps in this regard. For three years, we had sent several memoranda to the Union Home Minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.
Ram Niwas Solanki, general secretary of the Municipal Corporation Teachers Association, said that we are grateful to the central government that they understood our problem. Now the corporation will have more power, so the employees will not have to worry. We demanded that the three corporations should be united. Which the central government did. The extra expenses that were being incurred by this will also be saved. Along with this, the problem of delay in getting salary and pension will end. We have seen the situation of salary coming late by six months. Alam had become that no bank was ready to give loans to the corporation employees.
