Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday held a review meeting with PWD officials on the ongoing exercise to make the streets of the capital beautiful on the lines of European countries. CM Kejriwal directed the officials to remove all the obstacles on the seven identified roads of Delhi under the pilot project as soon as possible.
He said that the process of appointing a consultant for the redesign of roads is in the final stage, PWD should also complete this process soon. These roads will be developed on the lines of built-operate-transfer (BOT) and the construction agency will hold the responsibility of maintenance for 15 years. Under the pilot project, the 7 roads, which were to be completed by December 2020, have been extended to March 2021 due to Covid-19.
Dust pollution will be eliminated from the roads by planting grass
After re-design of the roads, an inch of ground will not be vacant around the road, where there is no grass, so that there is no pollution from dust on the road. Right now there is a problem with dust blowing on the roads, which causes people pollution problems. Green belts or grass will be planted on the vacant land along the road, so that the roads look beautiful due to greenery and reduce the pollution caused by dust.
The Delhi government is working on making the 100-foot-wide and 500-km-long road in the national capital beautiful on the lines of European cities. Chief Minister Kejriwal has envisaged a redesign of the roads so that the roads of the capital also look as beautiful as the roads of the capital of the developed countries of the world.
In November 2019, Kejriwal approved to redesign some of the roads falling under the jurisdiction of PWD. Under this, the Delhi government has decided to make 100 feet wide and 500 km long road beautiful on the lines of European cities. At present, it has been approved to redesign 7 roads of Delhi under the pilot project. CM Arvind Kejriwal recently expanded the scheme to 100 feet wide and about 500 km long in Delhi by redeveloping the Chandni Chowk road as a pilot project. The development of these roads will be on the lines of built-operate-transfer (BOT) and the construction company will hold the responsibility of maintenance for 15 years.
Redesigning of roads will remove many problems
Re-designing the roads will eliminate bottlenecks. Currently, a road turns from four lanes to three lanes or from six lanes to four lanes. This suddenly increases the pressure of vehicles at a place on the road and creates a jam situation. After redesign of the roads, this problem will be eliminated and the roads will look uniformly wide, this will eliminate the problem of jam. The space will be put to good use by eliminating the space on the roadside or surrounding roads. There will be space for pavements, non-motor vehicles. A minimum of 5 feet of pavement will be increased to a maximum of 10 feet. The pavement will be designed according to the convenience of the disabled so that the road looks the same and the Divyang is not disturbed.
Greenery will be increased on roads
There is less scope for greenery on the roadside in Delhi. After the re-design of the roads, there will be space for planting trees on the pavement and there will also be space for green belts. Separate space and stand will be provided for autos and e-rickshaws. Road slopes and drains will be re-designed and re-constructed. Drains must have re-harvesting systems. Road slopes will be fixed so that rainwater can be recharged into the ground. Street furniture will be installed, the junction will be fixed and there will be no open space on the road. Grass or trees will be planted along the road and roads will be resurfaced.
These major facilities on the redesigned roads will be-
- Parking for rickshaws
- Parking space marked
- Green Belt
- Public Open Special
- cycle lane
- Pedestrian lane
- Different types of design will be displayed on the walls of the road.
If there is a park next to the road, then it will not be covered by the wall, so that the beauty of the park can be seen from the road.
