Bhopal Building Fire: The fire kept burning for nine hours, burning four floors; 30 fire engines were brought under control with the help of the Air Force

A fierce fire broke out in the Satpura Bhavan, which houses dozens of departments of the state government, located in front of the ministry in the capital after 4 pm on Monday. The fire started from the office of the Tribal Regional Development Project of the Scheduled Tribes Department, located on the third floor of the Satpura building. According to the information, the fire started due to the bursting of the compressor of an AC, but very quickly engulfed the office of SC located on the third floor. When the fire started, a strong wind was blowing, due to which the fire very quickly engulfed the third floor and then spread to the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors. Due to the fierce fire, the offices of the Transport and Health Directorate along with SC located on the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of Satpura Bhawan have been completely gutted.

 

A huge amount of old furniture made of wood and useless documents was also kept on every floor of the Satpura building, due to which the fire spread very fast. Being a multi-storeyed building, initial efforts to douse the fire at Satpura Bhawan proved completely inadequate. After this, the fire engines of the Municipal Corporation and the police tried to extinguish the fire, but by then the fire had engulfed the fourth and fifth floors as well.

There are directorates and offices of about one and a half dozen departments in Satpura Bhavan. There is AC in every office. After the fire broke out, the pressure in the AC compressor caused blasts and the fire continued to take a formidable form. The upper floors could not be reached with the help of stairs to extinguish the fire, which took more time. Two fire tenders were called from BHEL, Airport, IOCL, and BPCL along with factories at Mandideep, Vardhaman factory near Obaidullaganj, Raisen, Vidisha, and multi-story buildings from Indore after the fire took a severe form.

 

Army's help was sought when the fire did not go out

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan spoke to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and sought the army's help when the situation was not under control at night. After this, army officers from Bhopal reached Satpura Bhavan with a fire engine and took charge. Air Force officials also reached Satpura Bhawan late in the night. After this, it was decided to send Air Force AN-32 aircraft and MI-15 helicopters from Delhi to Bhopal to douse the fire. The plane did not reach Bhopal till one o'clock late in the night. Air Force aircraft and helicopters will try to extinguish the fire by throwing water from above. The Bhopal airport will remain open throughout the night due to the arrival of Air Force planes.

 

Information is given to Prime Minister and Shah

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone regarding the raging fire at Satpura Bhawan. Both the leaders were informed about the efforts made to extinguish the fire along with the efforts to be made. Both the leaders have assured Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of all possible help regarding this incident of arson.

 

The ACS-PS committee will investigate

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the arson. This committee will submit the report on the initial causes of the fire to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh. ACS Home Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, Principal Secretary Urban Development and Housing Neeraj Mandloi, Principal Secretary Public Works Department Sukhbir Singh, and ADG Fire Fighting Ashutosh Rai have been included in the inquiry committee.

 

Home Minister reached the spot

Late night Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra reached the Chief Minister's residence. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, he reached Satpura Bhavan late in the night and saw the efforts being made to douse the fire. Minister Vishwas Sarang and Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai and other officers were also present on the occasion.

 

AC compressor burst and the fire started

According to the information that has come out late at night, the fire started due to an AC compressor burst and about 30 AC compressors kept exploding one after the other and now it takes a dreadful form.

Half a hundred fire engines were used to extinguish the fire, along with army personnel, CISF, SDRF, and NDRF personnel were also deployed to extinguish the fire, Computers, Printers, ACs, Freezes, Furniture, and Due to the huge quantity of papers and files being kept, the fire would extinguish and then flare up after some time. After extinguishing the fire, from where the rescue workers moved forward, after some time the fire started burning there again. The walls in the offices have also been covered with plaster and plywood, due to which there is a problem in extinguishing the fire.

 

The government said that the files of the establishment were burnt, not bought

Late last night, the state government clarified that all files, furniture, and equipment have been gutted due to the fire from the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of Satpura Bhavan. The departments in which the documents are burnt are due to the Tribal Welfare Department, Transport and Health Department. Establishment Branch, Nursing Branch, Complaint Branch, Accounts Branch, Commission Branch Assembly Questions, etc. have been damaged due to the spread of the fire. The hospital administration branch which operates on the second floor of Satpura has not been affected by the said fire accident. The files related to the purchase of medicines, equipment, and furniture for the hospital are not affected by the fire as they are on the second floor. It will be possible to assess the actual damage caused by the fire, tomorrow after the fire is extinguished.
