Kolkata, March 19 (IANS) The Trinamool Congress has appointed Rajya Sabha member Derek O'Brien as its chief national spokesperson, the party announced on Thursday.

The Trinamool also brought in parliamentarians Saugata Roy, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Sukhendu Sekhar Roy as its new national spokespersons, the party posted on its website.

O'Brien and Dastidar were earlier, in a major rejig, elevated to the National Committee of the party. Both have been named as national joint secretaries as well.

O'Brien, whose stock has been rising fast in the Trinamool since erstwhile national general secretary Mukul Roy fell out of favour with party supremo Mamata Banerjee and was stripped of all posts, is also now the leader of the party in the Rajya Sabha.
