US President Donald Trump recently announced a 100% tariff on films produced outside the U.S. In response, Shibashish Sarkar, President of the Producers Guild of India, has expressed his views. He believes that the new tariffs imposed by Donald Trump on film production may be an attempt by the US government to "protect local jobs and investment."
Waiting for an official order
In a statement to ANI, Shibashish said, "Trump's statement may be directed at Hollywood productions taking place outside the US. We will wait until we receive an official order. Right now, his focus is on bringing Hollywood productions back to the US, which have moved to Canada, Spain, and South Korea."
Trump wants to protect jobs.
Shibashish says that foreign language films released in the US will not be affected by the tariffs imposed by Trump. He said of Trump's decision, "His intention is to protect local jobs and investment." Maybe they don't care about foreign language films released in the US.
