The organization of Islamic Cooperation i.e. OIC has said that it is trying to start talks between India and Pakistan. The organization said that it has also prepared a plan for this.
OIC is an organization of 57 Muslim countries. Its Secretary General His Taha visited Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Sunday. During this, he interacted with the media. India has taken a tough stand on this. India and Pakistan have not held any open forum talks since 2019. However, several times media reports claimed that the two countries were negotiating under backdoor diplomacy.
trying to find a way to communicate
India had expressed strong displeasure over Taha's visit to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had said – OIC has no right to interfere in the Kashmir issue. Kashmir is an integral part of India and we do not tolerate any third-party interference in it.
On the other hand, OIC Secretary General Hsin Taha said – The most important thing is that India and Pakistan should discuss this matter. We have prepared a plan for this. This issue is being discussed with the Government of Pakistan and other countries of the organization. I had gone to this area to see the ground situation. Had a conversation with Pakistan's military officers about the Line of Control here.
Foreign ministers of only 20 countries out of 57 came
OIC meeting was held in Islamabad last year. Foreign ministers of only 20 countries came in this. 10 countries sent delegates instead of foreign ministers. Representatives of some international organizations also attended. The Government of Pakistan did not give any information about why the foreign ministers of all 57 Muslim countries did not attend the summit.
Know in simple language what is OIC
The OIC was established in May 1971 after the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. Its full name is the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Its purpose was to help Palestine and free it from the shadow of Israel. It started with 30 countries, today 57 countries are its members. Their total population is about 180 crores.
Generally, Saudi Arabia dominated it in every round. There are two reasons for this. First- The two biggest centers of the faith of Muslims i.e. Mecca and Medina are in Saudi only. Second- Economically no other Muslim country even comes close to Saudi.
Reality of OIC
OIC has been in existence for more than 50 years. How successful was it in making Israel bow down and getting Palestine its due? Understand this with just one example, the picture will be clear. In 1948, Palestine was divided into two parts. Palestine got 48% of the total land and Israel 44%. 8% came in the share of Jerusalem and it came under the patronage of UNO. Today Palestine has shrunk to just 12% of the land. Israel has grabbed 36% of its land. The question is what the OIC kept doing...?
