The new general election in Bangladesh will be held in January 2024. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wazed has announced this. Hasina has been the Prime Minister of Bangladesh since 2009 and is a contender for the post of PM for the fifth consecutive time.

Hasina accused the main opposition Bangladesh Awami Party (BNP) that its leaders are sending the country's money to other countries through money laundering and the biggest name in this is Tariq Rahman, son of Awami Party leader Khaleda Zia.

Voting in the first week of January

Sheikh Hasina announced the election during a rally in Dhaka's Cox's Bazar on Wednesday night. Said- We are going to conduct general elections in the first week of the first month of the new year.

Hasina is the prime minister since 2009. He said- Today Bangladesh is counted among those countries of the world which are developing rapidly. The world calls us a developing nation. Sheikh Hasina, 75, further said – Khaleda Zia and her family have done tremendous corruption and money laundering. His son Tariq Rahman was at the forefront of this work. This is the reason why the court sentenced him to 7 years and fined 20 crore taka (Bangladesh currency).

opposition charge

If Sheikh Hasina is accusing the opposition party BNP, then BNP is also not behind. He said- Government machinery is being used to block our way. The government keeps bomb-making materials in our office and then hatches a conspiracy to prove to the country that we instigate violence.

Meanwhile, some social organizations are going to take out a rally in Dhaka on 10 November. They allege that there may be violence in the country during the general elections. Therefore, concrete arrangements should be made to stop it. The American Embassy has also expressed the same apprehension.

US Ambassador Peter Haas, who is present in Dhaka, said in a statement – We expect all political parties to maintain law and order and there will be no violence during elections.

This statement of the US Ambassador is also important because there was a violent clash between police and BNP workers in Dhaka on Thursday in which one person died.

how is the parliament of Bangladesh

The Parliament of Bangladesh is called 'Jati Sangsad' or House of the Nation. Its new building was completed on 15 February 1982. It is built on 200 acres. There are a total of 350 seats in the Parliament, of which 50 are reserved for women. Bangladesh is the only Muslim-majority nation in the world that has reserved seats in its parliament specifically for women.

Currently, Sheikh Hasina's party is Awami League. It has 302 seats. After this, there is the Jatiya Party of Hussain Irshad. It has 26 seats. Khaleda Zia's party BNP currently has only 7 MPs. The tenure of the Parliament is five years like in India. It can also be increased in an emergency.
