In the general budget of the upcoming financial year 2023-24, apart from agriculture, other enterprises related to it may get special attention. While this claim of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will help in increasing the income of the farmers, their products can be threatened in the global market. The entire agriculture sector can get priority based on the fast growth rate of sectors like livestock development, dairy, and fisheries.
India is the largest producer of milk in the world
India has now become the largest milk-producing country in the world. India's share in the world's milk production has reached 23 percent. In the year 1951, when only 1.70 crore tonnes of milk was produced, it increased to 21 crore tonnes in the year 2020-21. Milk production has increased from 121 million tonnes to 210 million tonnes during the last decade. While this sharp jump in production has accelerated the growth rate of the agriculture sector, it has also helped in bringing cash into the pockets of the farmers.
Special focus on livestock and dairy sector in the general budget
The livestock and dairy sector is likely to receive special attention in the general budget for the upcoming financial year. To maintain the health of the animals, a joint vaccination campaign will be conducted for viral diseases like lumpy, foot, and mouth. After the success of the mobile medical van started for animal health, its number can be increased. This facility can prove to be a boon for cattle rearers. India is rapidly scaling heights in meat, dairy, and poultry exports year after year.
India's stronghold in the international market
India is strengthening its hold in this field in the international market. For this, special provisions can be made in the general budget to maintain the health of the animals and the quality of the products. The growth rate of fish production has reached more than 14 percent. Along with speeding it up, some more provisions can be made for other infrastructural facilities along with Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.
Special Schemes for Marine Products
Special schemes can be started especially for marine products. There is a dire need for modern essential machines (nets and boats) for fishing in the coastal areas. There are immense possibilities in the coastal areas having a length of seven and a half thousand km. In the year 2019-20, where 14.16 crore tonnes of fish were hunted, it increased to 1.62 crore tonnes in the year 2021-22. While 13.62 lakh tonnes of fish have been exported, from which foreign exchange of about 60 thousand crore rupees was received.
Modern methods are being adopted for inter-state fish development, which has proved to be very favorable from the point of view of production. Integrated Reservoir Development Project for Inland Fisheries and special provisions for deep sea fishing are expected in the general budget. There is every possibility of its expansion after the success of the pilot projects launched in this direction. Approval has been given to build more than one and a half dozen different types of ports in the country for catching marine fish. Finance Minister can also look at its expansion. It is a sector that has considerable export potential. India has become the second largest exporter in the world, in which the share of shrimp is the highest.
