Uttar Pradesh is ready to hand over power to the BJP for the second time in a row, breaking the nearly three-decade-old political tradition. On the other hand, sweeping everyone's hopes, the Aam Aadmi Party can come to power in Punjab. As soon as the polling for the seventh and last phase in Uttar Pradesh is over on Monday, exit polls for five states are showing a similar picture. In Uttarakhand, there seems to be a close contest between the BJP-Congress. However, it is expected that the BJP government will save. In Goa, most exit polls are predicting hung results and in Manipur, the BJP seems to be ahead of the Congress.
Exit polls came as soon as the last phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh ended
In a true sense, in this election, all eyes are on the country's largest state, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, which has become the center of the farmers' movement to internal fighting. For the third time in a row in politically important Uttar Pradesh, there was a new experiment in the opposition camp. From Covid to the farmers' movement, Uttar Pradesh was also made a political arena. However, according to the exit polls released after seven phases, the opposition bets did not work.
All the survey agencies are giving a majority to the BJP. On average BJP was given around 250 seats out of 403. Some surveys also appeared to support the BJP's claim of crossing 300. For the time being, this victory will be huge in every way, because no government has won again in Uttar Pradesh for a long time. However, if the seats are reduced, the BJP may have to consider why the support has now decreased or the enthusiasm of the supporters has decreased after the support received in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2017 assembly elections.
Results can be disappointing for Congress
In 2017, BJP got three hundred and fifty seats including allies. If the exit polls are correct, the Congress may again be in for a big disappointment as no agency in Punjab has shown the return of the Congress. Instead, there was a wave of the Aam Aadmi Party in which different agencies have given 60-100 seats.
AAP made a big leap in Punjab
Keep in mind that the AAP, which removed the Congress government in Delhi, had performed something similar and since then the Congress's land is getting lost. In Punjab, the BJP had allied with former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and efforts began to prepare the ground for the future. It did not show much effect in the poll. At the same time, for the Aam Aadmi Party engaged in the exercise of expansion, the majority in Punjab can be a huge leap. It will be difficult even for the opposition parties to ignore the AAP, which has been far and wide in the opposition alliances till now.
Estimates of a close contest between BJP-Congress in Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand is a small state and the manipulation of even one seat here has been heavy for the parties. Even the exit polls are not able to clear the picture here. Some gave the edge to BJP and some to Congress. In Manipur, the BJP is generally seen in the lead, and in Goa, the situation is hung.
Keep in mind that this time in Goa, along with the BJP and Congress, the Trinamool Congress also contested the elections in alliance with the local party. Congress even alleged that the Trinamool and the Aam Aadmi Party were together weakening the opposition's fight against the BJP.
