The seventh phase of voting has started for the formation of the 18th Legislative Assembly in Uttar Pradesh. Voters have reached polling booths in 54 assembly constituencies of nine districts before polling parties tested EVMs with mock polls. Voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm in all seven out of nine districts, but in the Naxal-affected Sonbhadra's Robertsganj and Duddhi and Chandauli's Chakia assembly, the process of voting will take place from 7 am to 4 pm.

In the seventh and last phase of assembly elections, 54 seats are being voted in nine districts of Varanasi, Azamgarh, and Mirzapur divisions namely Varanasi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Azamgarh, Mau, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, and Bhadohi. 2.06 crore voters will decide 613 candidates in this phase. Of the 613, 75 are female candidates. In the Vidhan Sabha elections held in the year 2017, out of these 54 seats, BJP had won 29, SP 11, BSP six, Apna Dal four, SubhaSP three, and Nishad Party one.

 

Tight security arrangements: Voting is being held at 23,614 polling places in total 12,210 polling stations in nine districts. In the seventh phase, a total of 548 Adarsh ​​polling stations and 81 pink booths have been set up in which all the personnel on duty are women. There are special security arrangements for fair and peaceful polling in the last phase. An adequate number of paramilitary forces are deployed at each polling station. Paramilitary forces have also been entrusted with the security of the strong rooms built to keep electronic voting machines everywhere. The blockade has been put in place on the borders of UP with neighboring states.

 

Live webcasting at 50 percent booths: To keep an eye on the polling, arrangements have been made for live webcasting at 50 percent polling places of every district, which will be done at the level of District Election Officer, Chief Electoral Officer, and Election Commission of India. Video cameras have also been arranged as per the requirement.

 

Observers are also keeping an eye: 52 General Observers, nine Police Observers, and 17 Expenditure Observers are deployed by the Election Commission to monitor the voting. Apart from these, 1,621 Sector Magistrates, 195 Zonal Magistrates, 222 Static Magistrates, and 2796 Micro Observers will also monitor. The Election Commission has also posted a Senior General Observer, a Senior Police Observer, and two Senior Expenditure Observers at the state level.

 

Examination of seven ministers: The examination of seven ministers of the Yogi government will be held in the last phase. Among them, Backward Classes Welfare Minister Anil Rajbhar from Varanasi's Shivpur seat, Ravindra Jaiswal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Stamp and Registration from Varanasi North, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism and Culture from Varanasi South, Neelkanth Tiwari, Housing and Urban Planning from Jaunpur State.
