Bhubaneswar, March 10 (IANS) The BJP on Tuesday staged a demonstration here, urging the CBI to speed up its ongoing investigation into the multi-crore-rupee chit fund scam in Odisha.
The Bharatiya Janata Party submitted a memorandum to Central Bureau of Investigation chief Anil Kumar Sinha, asking him to expedite the probe in the scam in which several politicians and many officials are allegedly involved.
The memorandum said there was rising discontent among the public over what was perceived as the CBI going slow in the investigation.
The "inherent weakness" in the CBI charge-sheet has also led to the accused getting bail, the memorandum said.
It said documents recovered from Subhankar Nayak, a city-based land broker, revealed the nexus between chit fund operators, politicians, bureaucrats and middlemen in the scam.
"We demand that the CBI publish the details of the diary without further delay and expedite the investigation as per revelation in Subhankar's dairy which will hopefully bring justice to the innocent depositors," said BJP leader Bhrugu Baxipatra.
