The 54-day lockdown issued from March 25 in the country is going to end on May 17. There are about 71,000 cases of corona in the country. No decision has been taken as to whether the lockdown will be extended. Meanwhile, on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with chief ministers of all states through video conferencing and discussed issues to be raised after May 17. Indicating not to remove the lockdown altogether, but to gradually relax the restrictions, Prime Minister Modi said on Monday that he firmly believes that the measures needed in the first three phases of the lockdown are not necessary in the fourth.

The world will be like corona pre, corona post, just like World War

PM Modi told the Chief Ministers, there are two challenges before us. Decreasing the rate of infection of the disease and gradually increasing public activities by following the guidelines. According to the official release, Modi said that keeping distance from each other is the weapon to fight the corona virus till we do not find a vaccine or solution. He said, we have to understand that the world has changed after Covid-19. Now the world will be like Corona East, Corona Post, just like World War. And, in how we work, it will bring many important changes.

Thanking all the Chief Ministers for their support in the fight with Covid-19, PM Modi said, I request all of you to tell us how each of you wants to handle the lockdown in your state by 15 May. I want you to make a blueprint of how to deal with things during lockdown and after gradual relaxation. The Prime Minister said that based on the suggestions of the states, the way forward will be decided.

What did the Chief Minister of Bihar Jharkhand told PM Modi

According to sources, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar demanded to increase the lockdown by the end of this month. He also opposed the restoration of normal rail service. Along with this, he also demanded more trains to bring the migrant Biharis back home. Demand for machines and kits was also repeated to conduct sample tests of 10 thousand people every day. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that his government is with every decision of the Center in this crisis of corona virus. She has been following every consultation of the center literally. He also appealed to the Prime Minister to increase the wages given in MNREGA and the workdays given to the workers.

These states opposed train services

Citing the increasing cases of corona virus in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister K. Palaniswami urged the Prime Minister not to allow train services till May 31. According to Trinamool Congress sources, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, on one hand the Center wants the lockdown to be strictly enforced while on the other hand it is restoring train services and opening up land borders. What is the point of continuing the lockdown when railways, land boundaries and other areas are allowed to open? This is contradictory.

These Chief Ministers said - Lockdown increased but ……

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, while advocating to pursue the lockdown, said that a careful strategy should be made to get out of the lockdown and financial support should be given to the states. In the meeting, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that economic activities should be allowed in the national capital except in prohibited areas. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that local train services should be started in Mumbai for emergency services employees. Uddhav said that coronovirus cases are expected to peak this month or even in June and July. He suggested that any action on lockdown should be taken cautiously.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that state governments should be empowered to take decisions regarding dealing with economic activities within their states. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that rail, road and air traffic should be allowed, but under very strict surveillance. Several Chief Ministers including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu attended the meeting.

Journey to lockdown ... at a glance

The number of cases of corona virus infection has more than doubled since the last time the Prime Minister held talks with the Chief Ministers on 27 April, which has increased from 28,000 to around 71,000. A few days after the meeting, the central government had extended the lockdown period for two more weeks till May 17. However, some relaxation was given in economic activities and movement of people. The nationwide lockdown is in force from 25 March. The meeting took place just a few days before the third phase of the lockdown ended on 17 May. The second phase ended on May 3, while the first phase ended on April 14.
