India's Eye on Bangladesh Elections

After a long period of political change, new leadership has emerged in India's neighboring country, Bangladesh. The overwhelming majority won by the BNP in the Bangladesh elections is considered to pave the way for Tarique Rahman to become Prime Minister.

India is closely monitoring the Bangladesh election results, as these results are important not only for Bangladeshi politics but also for India. The Bangladesh elections could impact relations between New Delhi and Dhaka, especially at a time when the pro-India Awami League of Sheikh Hasina has been barred from contesting the elections.
