Counting of votes is underway after the Bangladesh elections. Tarique Rahman, who returned to Bangladesh after 17 years, is headed for a landslide victory, crossing the majority mark.

Congratulating him on his victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on his social media platform, "I heartily congratulate Mr. Tarique Rahman on leading the BNP to a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. This victory reflects the trust the people of Bangladesh have in your leadership."

India will stand in support of a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our multifaceted relationship and advance our common development goals. A new chapter has begun in Bangladesh politics, and Tarique Rahman's election as Prime Minister is considered certain.

India's Eye on Bangladesh Elections

After a long period of political change, new leadership has emerged in India's neighboring country, Bangladesh. The overwhelming majority won by the BNP in the Bangladesh elections is considered to pave the way for Tarique Rahman to become Prime Minister.

India is closely monitoring the Bangladesh election results, as these results are important not only for Bangladeshi politics but also for India. The Bangladesh elections could impact relations between New Delhi and Dhaka, especially at a time when the pro-India Awami League of Sheikh Hasina has been barred from contesting the elections.
