Father gave up his career to make Gukesh the 'King of Chess', the journey to becoming a world champion was not easy

18-year-old D Gukesh needs no introduction now. He has etched his name in history by winning the World Chess Championship title at such a young age. However, the journey to becoming the chess king has been very difficult for Gukesh. His parents also played an important role in his journey and made many sacrifices for their son. Gukesh has not only lived up to his parents' expectations but has also fulfilled his childhood dream.

 

Grandmaster D Gukesh defeated previous champion Ding Liren in the 14th game of the title match on Thursday. Now he has become the youngest world chess champion. Gukesh is the second Indian to win this title after Vishwanathan Anand. Gukesh received a bumper prize money for becoming the champion. Gukesh received 13 lakh dollars i.e. about 11.03 crore rupees on becoming the world champion.

After becoming the champion, D Gukesh said, "I was dreaming of this for the last 10 years. I am happy that I turned my dream into reality. I got a little emotional because I did not expect to win."

D Gukesh was born on 29 May 2006 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His father's name is Rajnikanth, and he is a nose, ear, and throat specialist doctor by profession. His mother Padma is also a doctor by profession and her area of ​​specialty is microbiology. Gukesh belongs to a Telugu-speaking family and started playing chess at the age of just 7 years. Father Rajnikanth left his job to make D Gukesh the king of chess. Then his mother took over the responsibilities of the house.

 

D Gukesh won his first championship at the age of just 9 years. He won the Under-9 Asian School Chess Championship at the age of just 9. Three years later, he won the World Youth Chess Championship at the Under-12 level. At the age of 12, he won not one, not two, but 5 gold medals in the 2018 Asian Youth Chess Championship. In March 2017, he became the third youngest chess grandmaster in history by winning the International Master Tournament.
