Fellowship: 16 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) scholars from the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) have been awarded the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF). There are a total of 47 scholars in the institute who have been beneficiaries of the PMRF scheme. Ph.D. Scholars currently working at IIT Gandhinagar in several areas of interdisciplinary research and development have received fellowships.

PMRF Scheme
The PMRF scheme was launched in the year 2018-29 and selects the candidates through a rigorous selection process at the national level. The Prime Minister's Research Fellowship is for students pursuing a Ph.D. program in Undergraduate Technology (B.Tech) or equivalent. Under this scheme, fellows get Rs 70,000 in their first year and a maximum of Rs 80,000 in their fifth year. In addition, each fellow will be eligible for a research grant of Rs 2 lakh per annum (a total of Rs 10 lakh for five years).
PMRF Eligibility and Selection Process
Candidates are eligible for the PMRF scheme if they have a mandatory graduation qualifying examination in Engineering (GATE) and degree requirements with a minimum CGPA of 8 or equivalent. The selection process includes the candidate's research performance, publications, their performance in international competitions such as Mathematics Olympiads and grades with the Association for Computing Machinery's (ACM) International Collegiate Programming Competition (ICPC), and letters of recommendation. A strong research proposal is also required for selection while due importance is given to publications in reputed journals and conferences.
