The government has approved a fund of Rs 30 crore for the purchase of surveillance cameras, drones, and other surveillance equipment for the BSF deployed to guard Indian fronts along the Pakistan and Bangladesh borders. Next year on January 26, the Republic Day parade will see the first women contingent of BSF riding camels along with their male counterparts. BSF Director General Pankaj Kumar Singh told reporters on the eve of the force's 58th Foundation Day that we are going to install 5,500 cameras on the forward fronts of the Pakistan and Bangladesh border.
Surveillance has increased in border areas
He reiterated that the force currently does not have a full proof system to counter the threat posed by drones i.e. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) on the western front i.e. Pakistan border. However, he said that we have increased surveillance in a big way in the border areas.
Women will also be included in the camel team in the Republic Day parade
He told that half of the camel contingent in the next Republic Day parade will be women. This is indicative of the increasing role of our women personnel in various duties and functions, he added. The famous camel contingent of the Border Security Force has been a part of the Republic Day celebrations since its inception in 1976. Before this, it has been participating in the parade since 1950 as a contingent of the army.
BSF shot down 16 drones on the Pakistan border
It is to be known that armed BSF personnel and band members are involved in this. Meanwhile, according to ANI, the BSF has shot down a record 16 drones this year so far amid the growing drone challenge along the India-Pakistan border, and the force has adopted the Drone Radhi system.
