Delhi Flood: Yamuna's water level declines but crisis persists, water filled in ITO area

Posted on 14th Jul 2023 11:22 am by rohit kumar

There has been some reduction in the water level of the swollen Yamuna, but the crisis persists. Due to water filling in the ITO area, the problems of the commuters on the Vikas Marg have increased.

Traffic on other roads including Ring Road is also disrupted. Due to the closure of three water treatment plants, water supply has come to a standstill in large areas of Delhi since Thursday. If the water level of Yamuna decreases further on Friday, then the people of Delhi can get some relief.

Yamuna's water level dropped

The water level of Yamuna reached 208.66 meters on Thursday. It started decreasing after 11 pm. It fell to 208.44 meters at eight o'clock on Friday morning. There has been some reduction in the water level, but Yamuna is still flowing more than three meters above the danger mark of 205.33.

Due to this, along with the low-lying areas of the capital, areas like Kashmere Gate, Civil Lines, Chandgi Ram Akhara, Ring Road, and ITO have been flooded. Water had started filling at ITO since late evening on Thursday, it increased further on Friday morning.

broken drain regulator

Yamuna water is coming towards ITO due to the breakage of the regulator of drain number 12 near Indraprastha metro station and the office of the World Health Organisation. From this drain, the water of the rain drains falls into the Yamuna. Right now the water level of Yamuna has become higher than this, due to which it is reaching towards ITO through this drain. It also cannot be turned off because the regulator is broken. A temporary dam has been built to stop the water, but it has not brought relief.

water-filled at ito

Office goers are facing a lot of trouble due to water logging at ITO. There are many government and non-government offices in this area. Through this people go to other places of Delhi including Connaught Place. They are also facing problems.
