'India should not trust America blindly', know why the former army chief told the government to be cautious

India should not trust America blindly in any matter, says former Army Chief General Bikram Singh. Along with this, the former army chief also advised the government to be cautious towards America. He said caution should be exercised while dealing with the US on strategic matters as the world's most powerful country has not yet proved its credibility with its closest allies.

Advice to proceed with caution in relationships

Bikram Singh, who was the 24th Army Chief, said that India, despite being a member of the Quad grouping, has improved and deepened its ties with the US. Advising the government, he said that despite this, the government should proceed with caution in establishing relations.

America has not yet been able to make itself reliable

Referring to the Quad, Bikram Singh said that India, America, Japan, and Australia are included in the Quad. While it is good that we are part of the Quad (the grouping is seen as a counterweight to China in the Indo-Pacific region), it would be in our best interest to proceed with caution with the US, as Washington has never made himself trustworthy in his dealings.

Be it a strategic or defense deal, be alert

Addressing the SBI Banking and Economic Conference, Bikram Singh said a cautious approach has to be adopted with Washington while establishing strategic and defense cooperation. Singh said, “America first walked away from Vietnam, then Iraq twice, and recently Afghanistan. We should be very careful in dealing with America." Bikram Singh further said that the US has failed in all its external military interventions and one of the main reasons was that Washington is outsourcing its work to others.
