Today is the seventh day of the Russia-Ukraine war. The common citizens of India may not have anything to do with this war, but their interest is increasing in this war. Many kinds of questions are flashing in his mind at once. For example, will this war turn into a world war? What would America's role be if there was a world war? What will happen after the Great War? What will be the role of India in this war? Will the friendship between India and Russia last? Will India always support Russia? What will be the role of China and Pakistan in the world war? etc etc. Let us know on this Prof. What is the opinion of Harsh V Pant (Director of the Strategic Studies Program of the Observer Research Foundation)?
Is the Russia-Ukraine war heading towards world war, is the world at risk of a world war?
1- In my view, there is no threat of world war. The big reason behind this is that Russia involved is a nuclear power nation. It has a large number of nuclear missiles. On the other hand, America and many Western countries involved in supporting Ukraine have a stockpile of atomic bombs. In such a situation, both sides know their boundary line very well. Therefore, there is little possibility that this war will turn into a great war or a world war. However, America and Western countries can impose harsh sanctions on Russia. Its effect on Russia will be terrible. Russia will be isolated from many countries of the world. This will have far-reaching consequences on the interests of Russia.
2- US President Joe Biden is indicating repeatedly that our NATO forces will not enter Ukraine. This is an indication that we will not intervene militarily in Ukraine. This statement of the US President is very important at the time of war. He has indicated that if Russia is thinking that the US or NATO countries can send their troops to Ukraine if the war is long, then Russia should be clear. The special thing is that this statement of Russia has come at a time when Putin put his nuclear bomb troops on high alert. This indicates that Russia and America are not willing to take this war outside Ukraine. Therefore, there is no possibility of a great war or a world war.
Will Russia's problem be solved if Russia conquers Ukraine?
1- Not at all. I think even if Russia conquers Ukraine, Russia's troubles will not be less. The way nationalism was born in Ukraine. From that, Russian President Putin has emerged as a villain. This is the reason why ordinary Ukrainians have come out on the road with weapons for the security of their country in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. Suppose that even if Russia succeeds in conquering Ukraine and forming the government of its choice there, then how much faith will that Russian-backed government have in the Ukrainian people. This is a big question.
2- Secondly, after this war, if Russia leaves its army in Ukraine, then nationalism can take a more violent form there. The Ukrainian people cannot tolerate Russian soldiers in their own country. Russian interference in the politics of Ukraine will not bode well for Putin in any way. In such a situation, a new kind of challenge will arise before Russia in Ukraine. A new conflict will arise between Russia and the Ukrainians. It would be dangerous for Russia. Especially for Putin's power. This situation will arise when after the war Russia is facing harsh sanctions from the US and Western countries. This will be nothing less than a bad day for Russia.
India's role in Russia Ukraine war is right, will India continue to support Moscow?
See, 60 to 70 percent of India's defense equipment is manufactured by Russia. India is heavily dependent on Russia in terms of security equipment. In such a situation, India must lean in favor of Russia. But if the war goes on for a long time, the situation for India will be more complicated. The way Russia is being condemned in the United Nations. Other countries of the world are mobilizing against Russia. This will increase the problems of India in the future. India has very close relations with Western countries and America. In such a situation, the biggest challenge before the Indian foreign policy so far has been presented. The big challenge for Indian foreign policy will be how it engages Russia and America in the United Nations.
2- Given the tough stand of the United Nations, China is also not supporting Russia very strongly. Instead of justifying Russia's stand from every forum, China is emphasizing dialogue and peace to solve the problem. China has not justified Russia's war at any forum. Instead of Russia, China has tuned in to the United Nations. Behind this is the pressure of the United Nations on China. In such a situation, Russia seems to be completely isolated.
