Tributes were paid to the country's first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, who was martyred in a helicopter crash on December 8 last year, on his first death anniversary. During this, NSA Ajit Doval released the book 'Mahayoddha Ki Mahagatha' written by Manjit Negi during a program organized at Akash Officers' Mess, Delhi. During this, remembering the former army chief, he said that we have lost a true patriot, it is a personal loss to the country.
NSA Ajit Doval said that the departure of General Bipin Rawat is a personal loss to the country. I had a personal relationship with him. His focus was always on how his future would shape up in the Indian Army and the nation. He further said that in 2017 when we had a difficult situation with the Chinese. We used to plan and discuss. General Bipin Rawat was determined. When we said that we will not back down and we will stand firm and allow China to back down, China dragged its feet after a difficult time of 74-75 days.
He said that after the departure of Bipin Rawat, the country lost a patriot, visionary, strategic thinker, and the Indian Army a good general. General Rawat's daughters were also present in the release program of this book.
Rawat was martyred in a helicopter crash in Coonoor on December 8 last year. Doval said the death of General Bipin Rawat is a personal loss to the country. I had a personal equation with him. It was a shock that perhaps has its resonance and can be seen and felt all around today, Doval said. He was a man of vision and determined to get results. He was a highly professional person. Navy Vice Chief Admiral SN Ghormade and Air Force Vice Chief Air Marshal Sandeep Singh were also present in the program organized for the first death anniversary of Bipin Rawat.
Life was lost in a helicopter crash
On December 8, 2021, General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, and 11 others lost their lives in a helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. Others killed in the crash included his Defense Advisor Brigadier Lakhbinder Singh Lidder, Staff Officer Lt Col Harjinder Singh, Wing Commander PS Chauhan, Squadron Leader K Singh, JWO Das, Junior Warrant Officer Pradeep A, Havildar Satpal, Naik Gursewak Singh, Naik Jitendra Kumar, Lance Naik Vivek Kumar, and Lance Naik Sai Teja.
