
UP Highways and Expressway Fog Update Entire North India including the capital Delhi is facing the double attack of cold and fog. There is fog and cold waves since Monday morning. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, many states are not going to get relief from this for the next two days. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh and an orange alert in Rajasthan, Bihar. Dense to very dense fog is expected over these states. In many states including Delhi, Punjab, UP, Haryana, and Bihar today visibility remained negligible due to fog. Traffic advisory has also been issued in Delhi and UP due to fog.
Visibility is 50 meters in Delhi
Due to dense fog in Delhi today, the visibility is 50 meters. Traffic in Delhi witnessed a crawl today due to poor visibility. Due to low visibility, the traffic department was also instructed to keep the speed of vehicles low. In Delhi, instructions have also been given to close private schools till January 15 due to cold and fog.
People walking on National Highways with lights on
The effect of dense fog was also visible on the National Highway. On the National Highway of Delhi-Panipat and Faridabad, people were seen driving vehicles with lights on. At the same time, due to low visibility, the speed of vehicles was also seen slow on many highways (UP Highways and Expressways) of UP. People have also been instructed to keep the speed of their vehicles low.
Mercury was 1.9 in Delhi and 3.3 in Punjab
Due to the cold wave in Delhi, the minimum temperature in Safdarjung was 1.9 this morning. On the other hand, the mercury dropped significantly in many districts of Punjab, the maximum temperature in Rupnagar was 12.1 and the minimum temperature was 3.3 degree Celsius. While Amritsar recorded a minimum of 6.6 degrees Celsius. In Faridkot, one person even died due to cold.
Visibility zero in many cities
Visibility remained negligible in Delhi, UP, and Punjab due to fog. While it was 50 meters in Delhi, there was zero visibility in Bathinda in Punjab and Lucknow, Agra and Bareilly in UP. There was zero visibility at many places in Haryana and Chandigarh as well.
Still no relief from chills
The whole of North India, which is suffering from cold waves and dense fog, will not see any relief in the coming days. IMD has issued red and orange alerts for the next 48 hours in many states.
