India is hosting a conference of security officials for the first time today. Top officials from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan attended the conference. The meeting is chaired by National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.
On this occasion, NSA Ajit Doval discussed the emerging security situation in Afghanistan and ways to deal with the threat of terrorism emanating from that country.
Connectivity with Central Asian countries is India's priority
NSA Doval said that connectivity with Central Asian countries remains a key priority for India. We stand ready to collaborate, invest and build connectivity in this region. While expanding connectivity, it is important to ensure that initiatives are consultative, transparent, and participatory.
The persistence of terrorist networks in the region, including in Afghanistan, is also a matter of deep concern, he added. Financing is the lifeblood of terrorism and combating the financing of terrorism must be a priority for all of us.
Afghanistan is an important issue for all of us
In the first India-Central Asia meeting of National Security Advisors, Secretaries of Security Councils, NSA Ajit Doval said, all members of the United Nations should refrain from assisting entities involved in terrorist activities. Emphasizing Afghanistan, he said, Afghanistan is an important issue for all of us. India's concerns and associated objectives about immediate priorities and the way forward are before all of us.
Turkmenistan was represented by its Ambassador to India.
In November last year, India hosted a regional dialogue on the situation in Afghanistan, which was attended by the NSAs of Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. But this is the first time India is hosting top security officials from Central Asian countries.
