India's position has worsened in the Global Hunger Index 2022. According to the data, India has now slipped six places to 107th position out of 121 countries. Talking about South Asian countries, India's position is slightly better than the war-torn country of Afghanistan. Afghanistan is ranked 109 on this list. With a score of 29.1, the publishers of the Global Hunger Index described the 'hunger' situation in India as serious.
On the other hand, if we talk about neighboring countries, then the situation of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Myanmar is better than ours. In the list of 121 countries, Pakistan is ranked 99th, Sri Lanka 64th, Bangladesh 84th, Nepal 81st, and Myanmar 71st.
The worse situation in these countries than in India
If we look at the data of the Global Hunger Index, then the situation of Zambia, Afghanistan, Timor-Leste, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Lesotho, Liberia, Niger, Haiti, Chad, Dame Congo, Madagascar, Central African Republic, and Yemen is worse than India. . The report said that the rank could not be determined for 15 countries including Guinea, Mozambique, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Somalia, South Sudan, and Syria.
The opposition attacked the government
After the figures of the Global Hunger Index came out, the opposition-dominated the government. Congress leader P Chidambaram said India's score has deteriorated since 2014 in the eight years of the Modi government. In a tweet, Chidambaram said, Hindutva, Hindi imposition, and spreading hatred are not medicine for hunger. Apart from this, Karti Chidambaram tweeted, the BJP government will reject these figures and raid the organization doing the study.
Sisodia took a jibe
After these figures came out, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also attacked the government. He said BJP gives speeches about making India a five trillion economy, but 106 countries are better than us in providing two meals a day. He further said, without giving good education to every child in India cannot become number 1.
