Addressing the 51st Conference of Governors and Lieutenant Governors at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday, President Ram Nath Kovind said that governors should form a vibrant government from the people. He was considered a friend, philosopher, and guide of the people and the government by the framers of the constitution. Governors should give maximum time to their states.
In the one-day conference, President Kovind also asked the Governors and Lieutenant Governors to remember that they are committed to the welfare and service of the people of the state. Referring to the responsibility of the governors, Kovindan said that our expert constitution-makers thought that the governor would be a friend, philosopher, and guide to the common people and the government.
On this occasion, the Governors and Lieutenant Governors of all the states and union territories came to be a part of the conference. Apart from this, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah also participated in this conference. It is reported that the President congratulated all the Governors and Lieutenant Governors appointed after 2019 during the conference and then condoled the demise of former Governors Kalyan Singh, Lalji Tandon, and Mridula Sinha.
On the corona epidemic, Kovind said that due to the corona epidemic, we are meeting at a gap of two years. On this occasion, we should give credit to the frontline workers who are playing the most important role in fighting Corona. Not only this, but the President also appreciated the work of scientists and entrepreneurs to make the vaccine available in India at the earliest. He discussed and praised the efforts made by the states to stop the epidemic.
The President also spoke of the COP26 summit in Glasgow, Scotland this month, in which India has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2070. Kovind said that with India becoming a major economic power, the promises of the Paris Climate Agreement should also come before the world firmly.
Fourth Conference chaired by President Kovind
This conference of Governors, Lieutenant Governors is a tradition, which is going on since 1949. The first conference was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in 1949. It was presided over by C Rajagopalachari, the last Governor-General of India. Officials said this is the fourth conference chaired by Kovind.
