A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) probing illegal stone mining in Haryana's Nuh district was on Tuesday crushed by a truck when he signaled to the driver to stop. The officers provided this information. He told that Surendra Singh had signaled a dumper-truck to stop to check the documents, but the driver crushed him while increasing his speed. According to officials, the driver and security personnel of the DSP saved his life by jumping on the side of the road, but Surendra Singh was hit by the truck.
Police said Singh was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. According to the police, Singh along with his team had gone to Pachgaon near Tavadu to conduct raids to check illegal stone mining in the Aravalli hills and at around 11.50 pm he had signaled to stop after seeing the truck. An official said that the police team is conducting raids at various places to arrest the driver of the truck.
Officials said that since 2015, around 50 complaints of illegal mining are registered in Nuh every year. He told that there have been frequent clashes between the members of the mining mafia and the police. DSP Singh was recruited to the post of Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Haryana Police in 1994 and he was about to retire in a few months. Originally a resident of Sarangpur village in Hisar district, Singh was living with his family in Kurukshetra.
