History of the Consumer Electronics Show

 

250 companies attended the first show: The first Consumer Electronics Show (CES) was held from June 24 to 28, 1967. It was attended by 17,500 visitors. For the first time, a total of 250 companies attended the Consumer Electronics Show, along with majors such as LG, Motorola, and Philips. The area of ​​the event was one lakh square feet. The highlight of the event was on TVs and pocket radios with integrated circuits.

 

Event held twice a year: In 1978, because of the success of the Consumer Electronics Show, it was decided to conduct it twice a year. It was renamed the Winter Consumer Electronics Show (WCES) in Las Vegas in January and the Chicago Summer Consumer Electronics Show (SCES) in June. The series of two events in a year continued till 1994. The Winter Show in Las Vegas became more popular than the Summer Show in Chicago. In such a situation, in 1995, the convention center was made in Las Vegas for this show.

 

More than 1.75 lakh visitors reached in 2019: 1.50 lakh visitors attended the Consumer Electronics Show held in 2006. In this way, it also became the largest electronics event in the United States. Since then, more than one lakh visitors reach here every year. In the year 2019, more than 1.75 lakh visitors attended. At that time the event was organized in an area of ​​167,000 square feet (18555 square yards). Which is a bigger area than a cricket field.

 

Virtual event for the first time in 2021: Due to the threat of Covid, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2021 was held virtual. This was the first time in the history of 52 years that the convention center in Las Vegas, US did not see a crowd. 1.50 lakh visitors attended CES 2006. In 2019, more than 1.75 lakh visitors attended. At the same time, in 2020 also, around 2 lakh visitors took part here.

 

Now the convention center equal to 22 cricket grounds

The Convention Center of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is spread over an area of ​​​​3.2 million square feet. This area is equal to 22 cricket grounds. In which 2 lakh square feet of exhibit hall floor and 250,000 square feet of meeting space have been given. There are also 1 lakh guest rooms, 144 meeting rooms with a capacity of 20 to 2500 people. It is operated by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). It is also the largest convention center in the world.
