The Chief Ministers of UP have two tenures. First- Brahmin period, 1946 to 1989, ie 39 years. In this, a total of 6 Brahmins became CM and ran UP for 20 years. Second- Brahmin zero period, 1989-2021, ie 31 years. Not a single Brahmin became CM in this. Let us take a look at both the phases of this story of the Chief Ministers of UP in turn.
UP's Brahmin period: 1946 to 1989, total 6 Brahmin CMs, all from Congress
The freedom struggle was at its last. The leader is the one who shakes the throne to the British. In 1925, the boys of UP looted the treasury of the British in Kakori. At that time no one was ready to represent him in the court. This is where the first Brahmin leader of UP came to the fore - Govind Ballabh Pant.
Brahmin CM 1: Freedom Fighter Govind Ballabh Pant
Fought the case of UP boys accused of Kakori incident. Then the British schools started closing. UP started feeling free only a year before independence. Big leaders took everyone's consent and in 1946 Pant became the CM. If the constitution was made, then he became the CM. When Sardar Patel died, he left UP and became the Home Minister at the Centre.
Brahmin CM 2: Sucheta Kriplani, the first woman who became the CM of UP
She was a strong leader. Married 20 years elder Acharya Kripalani in 1936. Then Gandhi was against them, but in 1946 Gandhi himself said that support me. When the 1952 elections came, her husband's track with Nehru deteriorated, so she left the Congress, but then did not listen to her husband and returned to the Congress in 1957. She was a lecturer at BHU for many years. She understood the people of UP. One by one the elections were fought. She won every time. When Congress won in 1963, he was called and made CM.
Brahmin CM 3: Kamalapati Tripathi of Banaras
Khanty was a Banarasi. Used to read and write. Today he was a journalist in the newspaper, wrote books. The leaders were made in the freedom struggle, but not the rabbit, the tortoise used to walk. Gradually increased in height. When Congress won the election in 1971, it could not ignore Kamalapati. Made CM, but in his government, the police revolted. This is called the PAC rebellion. The police did not work for 5 days. The whole system collapsed. There were allegations of corruption. Indira opposition was increasing at the Centre. In UP, Congress has become impotent and elections have come.
Brahmin CM 4: Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, the master of political gimmicks
Hemvati was a leader since childhood. To get his point across, he used to make the children of the house stand with him. When he went to study, he became a student leader there. In the fight for freedom, the leaders of the extremist parties were together. After independence, UP started being called fast-paced. During Kamalapati's rule, when the Congress felt that the Congress had come to a standstill, then they were employed. In 1973, Congress contested the elections by leading him, winning, and making him the CM.
Brahmin CM 5: Shripati Mishra who clashed with Rajiv Gandhi
There was a tremendous earthquake in UP from 1980 to 1985. Quite a film account. Congress won and VP Singh became CM. Then there was the great terror of bandits in Bundelkhand. The VP declared that I will eliminate the bandits, otherwise, I will rejoin. The bandits killed his brother and the VP rejoined. Then, in a hurry, Shripati Mishra was made the Chief Minister in 1982, but in 1984, months before the end of his term, he clashed with Rajiv Gandhi and resigned.
Brahmin CM 6: Narayan Dutt Tiwari is the last Brahmin CM of UP
Was CM for a total of 3 times. Whenever Congress felt that the party would be shattered, it would remember the most cunning Brahmin leader of UP. For the first time when the whole country was turning against Indira, when from 21 January 1976 to 30 April 1977, this same Maharaj was the CM of UP and stood with Indira.
When Shripati Mishra fought with Rajiv Gandhi and suddenly resigned, from 3 August 1984 to 24 September 1985, Rajiv reposed his trust in him. The last time the Congress government was in UP, he was the CM from 25 June 1988 to 5 December 1989. His name was Narayan Dutt Tiwari, but people call him ND Tiwari.
UP's Brahmin Zero Hour: Not a single Brahmin Chief Minister for 32 years
In 1980, the Mandal Commission submitted a report to the then Home Minister Giani Zail Singh. The commission identified 3743 backward class castes. Asked them to give a 27% reservation. There were a lot of ruckuses, but the OBC and Scheduled Caste leaders of UP knew that their time was about to come.
'Mulayam Singh Yadav is not alive, the wheel of the revolution chariot will continue to run'
7 years passed by fighting. Year 1987, city-Kanpur, town-Akbarpur. Mulayam Singh Yadav came out with a revolution chariot. Chariots and chariots started roaming all over the state. When they reached Banda, many stones were thrown at the chariot. Mulayam also suffered injuries, but he said, 'Mulayam Singh Yadav is not alive, the wheel of the revolution chariot will continue to run. The same thing happened, neither the chariot stopped nor Mulayam. On 5 December 1989, Mulayam Singh became the CM from Janata Dal.
The implementation of the Mandal commission gave the biggest blow to the brahmins.
The day has come on 13th August 1990, which has kept Brahmins away from the CM chair for 32 years. What happened was that VP Singh was in the PM's chair. He came from the Thakur caste, but he implemented the recommendations of the Mandal commission. Since then only Thakur, Yadav, or Scheduled Caste have become CM.
After 1989, 7 CMs have been made till now, 4 from BJP, 2 from SP, and 1 from BSP.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, ie BJP, has formed the government four times in the state since 1989. In this, he gave the opportunity of two Thakurs and 1 Bania and 1 Lodhi Rajput. SP chose both Yadav and BSP as CM from only SC.
At present, the condition of Brahmins, where the camels sit, sit there.
At present, there is no big Brahmin face in the politics of UP, which is visible in the race for CM. A few days back, BJP had formed a committee to woo Brahmin voters. But there is no CM face in it.
It is said that in the 2007 elections, Brahmins had joined the BSP to a large extent when Mayawati's government was formed.
In 2009, in the BSP government, cases were registered against all the Brahmins under the SC-ST Act. This angered the Brahmins and allied with the SP in the 2012 assembly elections.
But in 2017 against Yadavism, Brahmins supported the BJP.
At this time Brahmins are also being told against BJP. That's why BJP has formed a committee, but to be honest, this Brahmin Zero Hour is going on for the seat of UP.
