'I warn you, we will not give even an inch of land', Owaisi said on Waqf Amendment Bill;

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said the Muslim community has rejected the bill in its current form. Owaisi claimed that the current form of the bill violates Articles 25, 26, and 14 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantee the rights of religious equality and freedom.

 

During his address in the Lok Sabha, the AIMIM chief said, "I am cautioning and warning this government - if you bring the Waqf Bill in the current form in Parliament and make it a law, it will lead to social instability in the country."

 

"This bill has been rejected by the entire Muslim community. If the current draft of the bill becomes law, it will violate Articles 25, 26, and 14. We will not leave any Waqf property, nothing will be left." We will not give an inch of the mosque: Owaisi

Owaisi targeted the government and said, "You want to make a developed India, we also want a developed India. You want to take this country back to the 80s and 90s. If something like this happens, it will be your responsibility. Because, as a proud Indian Muslim, we will not lose an inch of our mosque. We will not lose an inch of our dargah. We will not allow this.

 

"He further said that we will no longer come here and do diplomatic talks. This is the House where I have to stand and speak honestly that the people of my community are proud Indians. This is our property, no one has given it to us. You cannot take it away from us. Waqf is a form of worship for us."

 

The report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) constituted on the bill related to amendments in Waqf laws was accepted by a majority of 15 votes as against 11 votes. The JPC has submitted its report to the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Thursday.

 

Why is the opposition angry over the JPC meeting?

 

Opposition MPs allege that the BJP members included in the committee ignored their objections and that the recommendations made in the report are not in the spirit of the Constitution. The MPs have alleged that they received the 655-page report yesterday evening (January 28) and they did not get time to study it and make recommendations. Let us tell you that the Joint Parliamentary Committee accepted the draft report today by a majority of 16-11.
