Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli has once again demonstrated his dominance in ODI cricket. India continues to hold sway in the ICC ODI rankings for batsmen. Kohli has climbed to the second position in the latest ICC ODI rankings. Kohli has been consistently performing brilliantly for some time now, and his ranking has improved significantly after being named Player of the Series in the three-match series against South Africa.
Kohli's brilliant form and rise in rankings
After losing the number one spot to Pakistan's Babar Azam in 2021, Kohli is now just eight rating points away from reclaiming the top spot. He amassed 302 runs in the three matches against South Africa, including two centuries. In the final ODI of the series, Kohli played an unbeaten innings of 65*, leading India to victory. This performance reflected in the rankings, and he climbed two places to reach the second position.
Rohit Sharma's dominance continues.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma has maintained consistent performance in ODIs throughout 2024 and 2025. He scored 146 runs in the series against South Africa and retained his top ranking. Kohli and Rohit have further strengthened India's dominance in the ICC ODI batting charts.
Other Indian batsmen's rankings
Shubman Gill, despite not playing in the ODI series, maintained his fifth position. Meanwhile, captain KL Rahul climbed two places to reach the 12th position. This reflects the depth of Indian batting talent. India's dominance continues in the ODI bowling rankings as well. Kuldeep Yadav climbed three places to reach the third position. In the T20 International rankings, Axar Patel (13th), Arshdeep Singh (20th), and Jasprit Bumrah (25th) also made gains.
Indians' performance in Test rankings
In Test batting, Yashasvi Jaiswal remains at number eight, while Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant moved up one place each to reach the 11th and 13th positions, respectively. In Test bowling, Jasprit Bumrah remains in excellent form, holding onto the number one spot. Following him, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav have also moved up one place each.
Changes in the rankings of players from other countries:
South Africa's Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, and Temba Bavuma have all improved their rankings. Meanwhile, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has jumped to third place in the Test rankings after taking 18 wickets in two matches of the Ashes series. Due to England's poor batting performance, Harry Brook has slipped to fourth place, while Kane Williamson and Steve Smith have each gained one position.
