The strict stand of the Supreme Court is in front of everyone on the level of increasing pollution in Delhi and its surrounding areas. Now on the directions of the Supreme Court, the Center has held an emergency meeting with the neighboring states on this issue on Tuesday. It was attended by the Commission Air Quality Management and Chief Secretaries of the NCR States and Punjab.
Giving information about this, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the government has extended the Red Light on Vehicle campaign for 15 days. Earlier this campaign was till 18 November. Its second phase will be from November 19 to December 3. He also said that Delhi has made it clear in the meeting that whatever decision the Supreme Court will give, it will be implemented.
He also said that in the meeting, Delhi has also suggested the option of lockdown. Gopal Rai said that the situation is getting worse. In such a situation, people should be allowed to work from home. He also said that taking steps, Delhi has closed its government offices.
Based on the results of this meeting, the Center has to prepare an action plan to fight pollution and present it before the Supreme Court on Wednesday. The next hearing in the matter is on Wednesday. RP Gupta, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change is also present in this meeting. Explain that CQM monitors the air quality of Rajasthan including the states of Delhi-NCR. On Monday, Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav also held a meeting because of the increasing pollution.
Earlier, during the hearing held on Saturday and again on Monday, the Supreme Court had expressed serious concern over the deteriorating situation. The Supreme Court had asked the Center and the Delhi government to tell the court what steps they have taken to check pollution. However, during the hearing in the court itself, there was a tussle between the two governments. The Solicitor General, appearing in this matter on behalf of the Center, said that the Delhi government is spending exorbitantly on advertising, while not taking measures to prevent pollution. At the same time, the Delhi government said that due to the burning of stubble in neighboring states, the air of Delhi is getting worse. On this, it was said from the center that stubble contributes only to a maximum of ten percent in pollution.
The Delhi government had agreed during the hearing on Monday on the option of lockdown suggested by the Supreme Court in the last hearing. In an affidavit, the Delhi government said that its only option is a lockdown. Along with this, it was also appealed by the Delhi government that this lockdown should not only be done in Delhi but also the surrounding areas. Only then can it be beneficial. The court had also suggested the option of stopping the movement of vehicles to the governments.
