Former Indian team head coach Ravi Shastri has given his opinion on whether captain Rohit Sharma should change his batting position in the Adelaide Test against Australia. Rohit was not available for the first Test due to the birth of his second child, but he joined the team before the second Test. In Rohit's absence, KL Rahul opened with Yashasvi Jaiswal, and after Rohit's return, the question is being raised as to who will open the innings in the second Test.
Rahul came to open in Rohit's absence.
Rahul gave India a strong start with Yashasvi and shared a 200+ run partnership for the first wicket in the second innings of the first Test match. Rahul scored 77 runs during this period. Before the second Test, Yashasvi and Rahul also opened the innings in the practice match against the Australia Prime Minister's XI and shared a half-century partnership. Rohit came in at number four in the practice match.
Ravi Shastri gave his opinion on India's batting attack and said that it does not matter whether Rohit will bat at this position because his return is important for the team. Shastri said in the ICC Review program, Rohit's return is a big boost because no one doubts his talent. He is very experienced and you need such experienced batting in the middle order. The Indian team has a good mix of professional and young players, so whether Rohit will open or come in the middle order, will be completely his decision. Rohit is so experienced that he knows at which position he can be more dangerous against Australia.
'Rahul should open'
Shastri said that Rahul should come to open because Rohit has not spent much time in Australia. Shastri said Rohit should come to bat at a place where Australia would not want to see Rohit play. He is the leader of the team so that he can select it. I think Rahul should come to open because since Rohit has come to Australia, he has not spent much time here. Soon he has to play against Australia Prime Minister's XI but I feel there will be no change in the combination and Rohit will bat at number five or six.
