The Indian team has fallen 0-1 in the five-Test series after losing the first Test at the hands of England. It has not been easy to make a comeback after falling behind in a Test series, but it is not impossible either. Since the first Test played by India in 1932, Team India has bounced back and won the series six times after losing the first Test. The Indian team has achieved this feat twice at home against England. In such a situation, Rohit Sharma's team can be expected to make a comeback this time too.

After losing the first Test, India has won three series on home soil and three series on foreign soil. There are six series where the Indian team had to face defeat after falling behind in the series. After falling behind, India won its first Test series against England in India in 1972-73. England had won the first Test under the captaincy of Tony Lewis but under the captaincy of Ajit Wadekar, the Indian team made a comeback by winning the next two Tests and won the series 2-1.

Ganguly's team did wonders

After 28 years, Sourav Ganguly's team achieved this feat by winning the 2000-01 three-Test series 2-1 against Steve Waugh's team of Australia. In 2020-21, Virat Kohli's team, after losing the first Test to England, won the next three Tests and won the series 3-1.

Won three series abroad also

Even on foreign soil, India has won three series after losing the first Test. In 2015, it defeated Sri Lanka by 2-1, in 2016-17 and 2020-21, it won the Test series by defeating Australia by a margin of 2-1. Coming back from behind in a Test series has never been easy. This can be gauged from the fact that in the history of Test cricket, there have been only 46 series in which the team has won after lagging.

selection became complicated

History shows that Rohit's team can win the series after losing the first Test, but the current conditions have made it difficult for the team. The situation has become complicated especially after Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul were out of the team for the second Test due to injury. Virat Kohli is already not present in the team. In such a situation, there is no reliable cricketer in the team who can play the spin of Tom Hartley and Jack Leach with complete dominance.

There is also an option to go with four spinners

The team management will have to puzzle over the selection for the second Test, which is going to start on February 2 in Visakhapatnam. Rajat Patidar can come in place of Rahul. It is also possible that the Indian team may go with one pacer and four spinners like England. Kuldeep can be included in the team in place of Siraj. Also, Washington Sundar may get a chance. Like Jadeja, left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar is also in the race.

Kumble advocated for Kuldeep

Another option for selection could be to include Patidar in place of Rahul and Kuldeep in place of Jadeja. Anil Kumble advocates the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav in the team. Kumble says that if the management thinks that it has to play with a pacer then Kuldeep's presence is very important. They have variety.
